Character
Name: His Worship, Inquisitor Mahanon Lavellan, Herald of Andraste (really prefers Mahanon or Lavellan)
Canon: Dragon Age: Inquisition
Pull-Point:On the road leading to the quest 'What Pride Has Wrought'. Post-Trespasser.
Powers Opt-In: N/A
Content Opt-Out: N/A
Age:28 32; looks slightly younger due to his small size and fair skin. Elves in the Dragon Age Universe age like humans.
Gender/Sex: Cis-Male
Appearance: Mahanon is is an elf; the typical pointed-ear variety, even if they're longer than the Tolkien type. He's quite short, even for an elf, and looks like he could really use an extra sandwich or two since he tends to stress too much to remember eating.
He's very pale, suffering from a lack of pigment that makes him albino, (or more correctly, leucistic since he lacks all the pigment, not just melanin). With white shoulder-length hair that's a bit longer in the back and white brows and eyelashes, he's essentially a little ghost.
Mahanon's eyes are very pale blue and tend to have a bit of dark circles around them and bags underneath since sleeping isn't his forte any more. He sees badly in bright light, which can be an issue at times.
His face is covered in tattoos made from blood known as vallaslin, which is a coming-of-age tradition among the Dalish elves. As he's a mage and thus the next leader (Keeper) of his clan, his vallaslin is very complex and detailed, dedicated to the goddess Mythal.
He has similar tattoos as the ones under his eyes (but not vallaslin) at his collar bones and a rather long scar his left thigh. The most obvious thing about him however is the green-glowing mark on his left hand called the Anchor; it is this mark that started all the crazy stuff he's been part of.
Post-Trespasser: Mahanon no longer has the Anchor, as his left arm has been amputated just above the elbow.
History: Sent to the Divine Conclave - a peace summit between the ambassadors of the templars and the rebel mages for the purpose of negotiating a peaceful compromise to end the civil war - Mahanon Lavellan was supposed to spy for his Dalish clan to see what the outcome would be. After a massive explosion kills everyone at the Conclave but him, he's drawn into a mess involving a broken sky, a strange mark on his hand and the belief that he's a messiah, specifically the Herald of Andraste.
Joining with the Right and Left Hand of the religious leader known as the Divine, who was present and killed at the conclave, he's part in the rebirth of the Inquisition and is eventually named Inquisitor, leader of the Inquisition and a beacon of hope. After uncovering that the person behind the explosion is an ancient Darkspawn named Corypheus, he starts to uncover secret plots, fighting corrupted templars and cultist mages while trying to restore peace.
Joining with the rebel mages, stopping an assassination attempt on the Empress of Orlais, finding corrupted Wardens and killing High Dragons, Mahanon soon has his name on everyone's lips. However, after being tossed into the Fade, he's forced to make his hardest decision ever, leaving the Champion Hawke inside to battle a massive demon while the rest of them escape.
This weighs heavily on his mind, causing him to falter slightly in his duty until he's finally roused by the knowledge of where his enemy is striking next. He goes there, is lectured about his own gods, plays elven hopscotch and is cheated out of his people's heritage.
Eventually he kicks the bad guy's ass and wins.
...oh, and he went into the Deep Roads and found the last Inquisitor in Avvar-land, too. Everything seems good.
Post-Trespasser: ...for two years. Then nations are ungrateful and want to mess with the Inquisition, the qunari attack, there are weird mirrors everywhere and his hand is killing him softly.
One arm less and another war stopped, Mahanon disbands the Inquisition.
The Inquisitor
The Dalish
Clan Lavellan
Personality: Mahanon has gone through a lot of character development over the course of the game. Starting out as a slightly shy, nature-loving introvert with a deep interest in elven history, worried about his ability to lead his clan in the future, he grew into the leader of one of his world's largest political and religious forces.
Not a natural leader, he learned to take charge with the help of his advisers and friends, and eventually became the kind of man that could make difficult decisions. That doesn't mean he isn't eager to take advice from those with better knowledge than him, and usually refers to the better judgment of his ambassador when it comes to politics, which aren't his strong forte. In the end, however, his decisions are his alone.
Underneath his mask, however, he's quite sensitive. He stresses a lot, being somewhat of a fretting workaholic, and suffers from with night terrors thanks to everything he has gone through... and while he's outwardly hard to insult, he carries such things for a long time and will judge you for it.
Post-Trespasser: Thanks to Solas, Mahanon has lost a lot of his faith in the elven gods and is torn between himself and his heritage.
Fighting brings out another person in him - he shuts off any other thoughts when facing danger. No remorse, no mercy, no prisoners. It's the only way he can kill without it leaving scars in him that add to his nightmares, and thus tries to imagine enemies without faces as he rips them apart with his magic. Demons and monsters do not bring him the same pain, thankfully.
Abilities: Mahanon is a mage, which means that he is attuned to the Fade, a metaphysical existing simultaneously with the physical world separated by the Veil. With this connection, he is able to draw out energy from the Fade with the help of his mana and weave it into spells.
Mages can usually cast one or two spells depending on the cost and then have to wait for their mana to recharge (which takes a few moments), so they usually back up their magic with bladed magical staves that help them fire weaker elemental energy without the mana cost.
While mages technically has the ability to use all those spells, he's the most comfortable with these:
Barrier: Puts a protective barrier over the nearest people (max four) that must be destroyed before they will take any damage. It only lasts for around 30 seconds.
Winter's Grasp: Casts a large ice blast that turns an enemy into an ice statue and freezes them in place.
Flashfire: Traditional explosive fire ball.
Immolate: Less traditional ground explosion of fire at a targeted place.
Mahanon has specialized in Rift Magic, which is the manipulation of the Fade itself.
Rift Magic Game Specialization
Veil Strike: Recreates the mage's own fist from the essence of the Fade and smash nearby foes to the ground.
Stonefist: Summons a boulder from the Fade and smashes it into a target, sending them flying.
Pull of the Abyss: Creates a tiny rift (like a small black hole) that violently pull enemies toward a central point.
Veil Effects: These passive effects create green mist around him, upping mana and damage while weakening enemies and reducing their attack power.
Lastly, he's the Inquisitor not because if his stellar looks but the fact that he has a piece of a veil key in his hand, which gives him the ability to momentarily open a rift, briefly sundering the Veil and sucking his enemies physically into the Fade. It takes a lot of power, however, and he needs to work up to it by fighting and concentrating his magic.
This was also used to actually physically walk into the Fade when he used it to save himself and others from falling off a crashing bridge. It's doubtful that he can do that without being in similar circumstances, though.
(In Arda Marred, he will be tapping into the Music instead of the Fade - which may backlash on him, especially when using his larger Rift Magic spells. His mark will also not be able to open any Rifts that can swallow people, AKA his special Inquisitor ability.
The lack of the Fade also makes it impossible for him to dream while sleeping, but will not render him emotionless.)
As a Dragon Age elf, he has some limited night vision, with tapetum lucidum that make his eyes reflect light at night. Like most elves in pretty much any canon, he's also generally a bit more dextrous and agile.
Post-Trespasser: Mahanon no longer has the mark and thus cannot use any of its abilities.
Inventory:
• Clothes and a leather coat, heavy leather boots and metal gauntlets.
• An enchanted necklace, two enchanted rings and an enchanted belt (all spirit resistance).
• One staff that shoots (minor) fire bolts. The grip is leather-wrapped and the staff ends in a sharpened blade.
• A random assortment of herbs, rocks and RPG crap™ he has looted, none of it is very useful.
• Five lyrium potions (essentially supercharges magic for a short time).
• His mount, a white hart (elk/deer) named Ghilan.
